A gunman who opened fire during a Florida school board meeting shot himself after exchanging fire with a local security chief, police say.
Earlier reports suggested the chief, who is a former board member, had fired the shot that killed the attacker at the Bay District School in Panama City.
But video showed he had shot himself, police said. No-one else was hurt.
The gunman has been identified by the authorities as Clay Duke. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
A local reporter for WMBB television said the gunman had approached the podium during Tuesday's board meeting.
The reporter said the man had pulled out a can of red spray paint and drawn a "V" with a circle around it, before he started talking
He then pulled out what appeared to be a hand gun, witnesses said.
One school board member hit the man with her handbag and he then opened fire randomly.
The security chief, named as Mike Jones, then entered the room and fired at the gunman, injuring him, police said.
The gunman then turned his weapon on himself, footage of the incident showed.
