Two demonstrators were killed and more than 100 others injured on Tuesday in clashes between security forces and protesters in the canal city of Suez, northeast of Cairo.
According to eyewitnesses, Mostafa Abdel Fattah, 20, was shot in the heart when security personnel used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse more than 8000 demonstrators. The identity of the second casualty, however, remains unknown at present.
In Alexandria, meanwhile, several demonstrators were reportedly injured by rubber bullets.
Nevertheless, a handful of protesters managed to climb to the to top of a public telecommunications building from which they tore down banners promoting the ruling National Democratic Party and President Hosni Mubarak's influential son, Gamal.
As of press time, demonstrators continued to roam the streets, with security forces seemingly helpless to stop them.
