A spokesman for President Laurent Gbabgo said the incumbent planned to contest results from three regions in the rebel-held north.

Both Mr. Gbabgo and opponent Alassane Ouattara have accused each other's campaigns of intimidation.

The country's election commission says it will release more results of the poll Tuesday.

Early results Monday showed Mr. Ouattara leading with about 60 percent of the vote.

The election was marked by pre-poll violence in which at least six people were killed.

Millions of Ivorians cast ballots Sunday in the long-delayed election designed to reunite the country divided after the 2002 civil war.

The first-round election in October passed peacefully with Mr. Gbabgo winning 38 percent of the vote. Mr. Ouattara, a former prime minister, received 32 percent. In Sunday's runoff vote, the candidates were vying for the 25 percent of voters who had backed the third-place finisher, former president Henri Konan Bedie.

President Gbabgo has ruled the country since 2000. His term officially ended in 2005, but the presidential election was delayed multiple times because of failure to disarm rebels and disputes over who was eligible to vote.
