A passenger jet made an emergency landing at a snowy Moscow airport on Saturday, killing two people and injuring 83 others onboard.

The plane, a Tupolev-154, carrying at least 155 people, took off from Moscow, and was en route to Makhachkala, the capital of Russia's southern region of Dagestan.

Two engines failed on the jet shortly after takeoff. The plane made an emergency landing at another Airport southeast of Moscow as its third engine cut out.

It skidded off the snowy runway and broke apart. Agencies report an electricity cut when it landed may have caused the brakes to malfunction.

The Russian Transportation ministry says the recordings stored in the aircraft "black boxes" are expected to be deciphered within 24 hours.
