Wednesday marks the traditional Chinese Winter Solstice Festival. People from all over the country are celebrating shortest day of the year with tasty treats.

People are getting ready for the longest night of the year.

It is not an easy task to experience a uniform winter solstice, because North and South China have completely different traditions in celebrating the day.

In the north, people will feast Jiaozi, made from white flour.

But to the in east in Shandong Province, more elaborate jiaozis are on the table.

This 3-color-Jiaozi is a speciality. Carrot and spinach juice add a colorful texture to the flour. That's the secret behind this multicolored Jiaozi. Mr. Wang, from Zibo says, the colorful Jiaozi is not only much healthier, but also has great symbolism.

Mr. Wang from Zibo, Shandong province, said, "The colorful Jiaozi symbolizes a happy life in the future. The whole family will be lucky after eating the colorful Jiaozi."
