Desperate insurgents in Afghanistan are now attacking soft targets like hospitals and public squares. With as little as a couple of hundred dollars, the Taliban effectively persuade poor Afghans to plant bombs and detonate them. CCTV's Yama Wolasmal tells us about the men behind the terror-attacks in Afghanistan.
A suicide bomber has blown himself up in a busy market somewhere in Afghanistan – killing several people. A bloody scene all too familiar for people in the war torn country. We often hear about them, but seldom do we see the men planning and carrying out these indiscriminate attacks. Behind every such deadly blast, there’s a huge logistical operation, with numerous people involved in the execution. Men like Abdul Malik, the alleged master mind of an attack on a civilian hospital in the province of Laghman just under a month ago.
He said, "A guy named Sultan Aziz brought the components of the bomb to my house. Then they made the two bombs there. I detonated the bomb outside the hospital, for which I was promised 220 American dollars."
But Abdul Malik wasn't acting alone, according to the Afghan intelligence service which arrested 5 men in connection with the attack on the hospital. This man was assigned with taping the killing of innocent people, for propaganda purposes.
Cameraman Sardar Wali said, "One of my friends detonated the bomb outside the hospital; the other one detonated the bomb near the busy junction. I was filming the whole attack, when I was arrested by police."
Even teenagers are involved in executing deadly attacks like this.
Fazal Khuda said, "They strapped the bomb to my bicycle. Then they told me to park the bike outside the hospital, and leave the area."
These pictures are taken by the Afghan Intelligence service. It claims the perpetrators were PAID to carry out the attack. For as little as 1000 dollars these men allegedly killed 5 innocent civilians and injured over 30.
Yama Wolasmal said, "The attack on the hospital clearly shows what the international forces from over 40 different countries and Afghan authorities are up against; a faceless enemy who doesn't shy away from striking at civilian targets, creating an atmosphere of constant fear in Afghanistan."
