The legendary figure Marco Polo is perhaps the most famous westerner who traveled the Silk Road in China. Now, an original dance drama created by the National Center for the Performing Arts salutes this friendly envoy. But instead of simply repeating his exploits to China on stage, the dance production gives a touch of magical realism by which Marco Polo also bridges the past and the present.

A modern Italian young man is a big fan of The Travels of Marco Polo. A pilgrimage to Venice and a visit to his former residence make the young man's spirit soar ... and all of a sudden he becomes Marco Polo himself, embarking on an arduous journey that transcends the boundary of time and space...

The dance production strives to display the panorama of the Chinese culture during the Yuan Dynasty some 700 years ago. Different styles of music including folk, traditional European music, as well as the imperial court music of the Yuan Dynasty were seamlessly interwoven to reflect the splendor and grandeur of ancient China.
