Xinjiang Autonomous Region in Northwest China boasts a prolific portfolio of cultural legacies and folk traditions. Along with the fast development of the local economy, the cultural industry in Xinjiang is also embracing a booming market.

Although the outside temperature is approaching zero, the atmosphere of the rehearsal hall at the Xinyu Song and Dance Troupe is heated up by a group of artists practicing their new routines.

The troupe made a name for itself when its repertory program "The Policies of the Communist Party is Good" was presented at the CCTV annual Spring Festival gala. Another of its repertoire, "Splendid Folk Tunes", hit the stage of the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing this June.

Over the past five years loads of classic stage productions covering ballad concerts and local operas have been created to cater to the taste of local residents of all ages. And systematic networks of all levels are established in a scientific manner to help pass on the refined traditional arts.

A total investment of over one billion yuan has been spent by the local government over the past five years to support and encourage the benign development of the local cultural industry.
