Royal wedding fever is truly underway in the UK, ever since Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their engagement last month. From who will dress the future Queen of England on her big day, to where the couple will go on their honeymoon, bookies and royal fans have been busy trying to guess every detail.

Among all the preparations for a big event like a royal wedding come the souvenirs. Literally thousands of official and unofficial items of memorabilia are expected to flood the market.

And as Royal Collection retailer Nuala McGourty explains, the official items for sale have been approved by Prince William and Kate after being carefully thought out and designed.

Nuala McGourty, Royal Collection Retailer, said, "We wanted a design that was contemporary in nature, was romantic and would reflect what we thought was the modern nature of the couple. So when we were talking to our designer, she thought the idea of using a wedding cake and using the idea of pillars and stripes and fairly cool modern colors would capture that quite well."
