TOKYO —
Mitsubishi Motors Cor has agreed with the Thai government to start joint study for fleet testing of electric vehicles as part of efforts to introduce its i-MiEV EV in the country.
The Japanese automaker and the Thai government will look into acceptability and marketability of EVs in the country, while studying specific steps in promoting EVs such as setting up user support systems and expanding charging infrastructure, Mitsubishi Motors said.
‘‘The popularization of EVs in Thailand will not only contribute to the reduction of environmental burdens, but I also firmly believe that the popularization of EVs in Thailand will be an important aspect in bolstering Thailand’s competitive edge in the next generation vehicle industry,’’ Mitsubishi Motors President Osamu Masuko said in a statement.
The Thai government will launch an integrated organization with related ministries and agencies under the industry ministry to promote an EV project, the automaker said.
