Christmas is a time of loving and giving, but it's also a time of binge eating. Surveys by UK supermarkets claim that people manage to cram in almost a week's worth of food on Christmas day alone.
Everything gets bigger at Christmas.
Goose and turkey tends to replace the normal bird, cakes and puddings tend to come with a sweet liqueur sauce. And don't forget the chocolates.
Depending on where you are in the world venison, lamb and even reindeer grace the dinner tables.
Some people even prepare for greed on a grand scale by having a little dietary purge in anticipation of the feast to come.

A YouGov survey in the UK three years ago discovered that we all, even children, eat around 6,000 calories a day over the holiday period. That's a bit of a shock if you consider that Britain's Department of Health recommends 2000 calories per day for women and 2,500 for men.
