Syrian singer Samo Zein led a demonstration Thursday in front of the Syrian Embassy in Cairo in support of embattled President Bashar al-Assad.

Syrians, like many others in the Middle East, are calling for political reforms and protesting against their president. But Zein and about 300 Syrian demonstrators chanted slogans in favor of the president.

Zein had announced earlier on Facebook that he would join the demonstration in support of the concessions approved by al-Assad. Syrian actress Solaf Fawakherji also reportedly has expressed support for the president.

Tunisian and Egyptian artists who supported their ousted presidents during uprisings were heavily criticized after the fall of the ruling regimes, and many later retracted their statements.
