Book a table: Wining and dining this weekend

Merry Christmas! I have an apartment to clean, 10 potatoes to peel and two chickens to cook, so this week's dining blog will be brief. If you haven't sorted out your Christmas dinner plans yet, you can take a look at our dining events section, but I noticed that just about every restaurant in Chaoyang has some kind of special Christmas menu for today (including Jazz Ya), so it shouldn't be hard to find anything.

Jenny Lou's was packed on Thursday, and apparently devoid of products yesterday, since the laowais of Beijing ransacked every last Christmas ingredient. For last-minute shopping, I'd go to Sanyuanli Market, which is always fully stocked and even carries my preferred brand of New Zealand cheddar cheese.

Speaking of cheese, making cheese fondue is tradition in my family, and so that's what I did last night. There are a few decent fondues to be had in Beijing restaurants, though. Try Enoterra's fondue, pictured here, or the Swissotel's fondue for a more classic flavor.
