India and Sri Lanka have also held remembrance ceremonies to mark the sixth anniversary of the 2004 Asian tsunami.
Scores of fisherfolk gathered to offer prayers to the sea at a beach in India's southern Andhra Pradesh state.
Over 12-thousand people were killed when the tsunami swept across India's south-eastern and southern coast. Millions were left homeless. In Sri Lanka, a ceremony was held in the northern city of Jaffna.
The prime minister lit a traditional oil lamp, and two minutes of silence were observed. The ceremony included a parade depicting the aftermath of the tsunami, people dancing in traditional dress, and school children releasing white balloons.
Sri Lanka's government says more than 39-thousand died in the tsunami. Most of the survivors have now resettled in new houses and restarted their livelihoods.
