New CCTV Pictures Of Missing Architect

Police hunting for missing architect Joanna Yeates have released new CCTV pictures of her shopping in a Tesco Express on the night she was last seen.

The footage shows the 25-year-old buying a Tesco Finest tomato, mozzarella and basil pesto pizza at around 8.40pm on December 17 in Clifton Village, Bristol.

She is seen using a self-service till in the supermarket and is wearing a cream-coloured coat with a rucksack on her back.

Detectives say there was no trace of the pizza, the wrapping or the box in the nearby flat Miss Yeates shared with her boyfriend Greg Reardon, 27.

A police spokesman said: "The video has been released by detectives hoping people in the area at the time will remember seeing Joanna and contact the police."

Earlier police said they were hopeful of finding Miss Yeates alive and well, even though she has been missing for a week.

Avon and Somerset Police Chief Superintendent Jon Stratford said: "This is still a missing person investigation and we hope there is some explanation behind this and to return her back to her family."

Miss Yeates disappeared after a night out with work colleagues in Bristol.

Mr Reardon reported her missing on Sunday night after returning home to their flat, in Clifton, from a weekend away in Sheffield visiting family.

Chief Supt Stratford said detectives are investigating the possibility Miss Yeates was abducted but added it was only one of several lines of inquiry.

He did reveal, however, that detectives from the north of England have been in touch about another unsolved case, that of missing chef Claudia Lawrence.

"I think our investigation team has been contacted by that team but at this point there is nothing to suggest a link," Chief Supt Stratford said.

He also confirmed a forensic team has finished searching Miss Yeates' flat for clues to her disappearance.

In an emotional appeal her father David Yeates, 63, said: "I think she was abducted after getting home to her flat.

"I've got to believe she's alive. She had so much life in her. If it turns out she isn't alive, I still want her back and want to hold her whatever state she's in."

A web page has been launched to spread details of her disappearance on social media sites.

Miss Yeates was last seen leaving the Ram pub in Park Street at about 8pm, walking up the street.

She went into a Waitrose supermarket but did not buy anything.

She then rang her best friend to arrange to meet on Christmas Eve, before going to the Tesco Express, a quarter of a mile from her flat, at about 8.40pm.

Although there was no trace of the Tesco pizza in the apartment, police did find Miss Yeates' cream-coloured coat, keys and purse.

Her mother, Theresa, 58, said her daughter and Mr Reardon had moved into their home recently and were looking forward to holding a Christmas party there on December 22.

The Yeates said the pair had been due to visit them at their home in Ampfield, Hampshire, at Christmas.

Chief Supt Stratford thanked Clifton residents for their help but urged anyone else with information to come forward.

"We have had a fantastic response from the public but we continue to ask anyone in the Clifton area who heard or saw anything suspicious to report it to police," he said.
