The Egyptian Company for Communication Technologies (EgyComTek) announced on Wednesday that it began to block websites involving sexual exploitation of children.

TE Data Managing Director Ahmed Ossama said the company signed an agreement with NetClean, a company that offers technical solutions to curtailing the proliferation of child pornography. He added that the company is interested in making the internet safer for children and families in accordance with international standards, laws, and National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority instructions.

The Administrative Court had issued an earlier ruling to block pornographic internet sites. However, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority stressed the difficulty of implementing the ruling given that some medical sites could be mistakenly classified as pornography given the sexual nature of certain topics.
