Prosecution services at North Sinai have remanded five people, including two Palestinians, into custody for 15 days pending investigation, after they illegally sneaked into Sinai through the Gaza Strip.
They carried five hand grenades and three machine guns with "Hamas" labels. They were apprehended by citizens' neighbourhood patrols in Rafah.
Judicial sources said the arrested individuals face charges of illegal infiltration into Egypt, the possession of arms, as well as attempted destruction.
Citizens' neighborhood patrols have been formed by Egyptians nationwide to protect personal and public properties following the controversial withdrawal of police forces during the ongoing two-week-old protests accross Egypt, which demand that President Honsi Mubarak resign.
