Two Americans accused of spying have gone on trial in a closed-door hearing in Tehran. Authorities imposed a blanket ban on observers, including the Swiss Ambassador who represents US interests in Iran.

Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer were arrested in 2009 along with Sarah Shourd, who wasn't in court. She was released last year, on a 500-thousand US dollar bail. Iran's state-run Press TV, reported all three Americans had entered, "not guilty" pleas.

The trial is set to continue, although no date, has been fixed yet for the next session. If convicted, the trio faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Iran charged them with espionage last November.
