Biography of Abdel Halim Hafez

He is one of the biggest artists in Egypt and the Arab world, Abdel Halim Hafez (real name: Abdel Halim Shabana) was born in June 21, 1929. Abdel Halim Hafez had a nickname “Aandalib Al Asmar”(Nightingale), and was known as the Arab Elvis. His mother died when he was young and his father died after five months from his mother’s death, he was an orphan at an early age.

Despite the rumors about his marriage, Abdel Halim Hafez and Soad Hosni were just friends and were not married. Souad Hosni died on the date of his birthday in June 21, 2001. Abdel Halim, has drowned in love once in his youth, but the family of his beloved refused to allow them to marry, and after four years, they got their approval; unfortunately the bride died before their marriagein few days.

His musical gift came into light when he was in primary school, and his first music teacher was his brother Ismail Shabana. At the age of 11, he joined the Arabic Music Institute in Cairo and became known for repeating the songs of Abdul Wahab. Abdel Halim Hafez graduated from the Higher Institute of Music as player on the instrument Alabouah.
Immediately after graduation, he was offered a government-run abroad, but he refused running away and worked for 4-years as a music teacher.
And after he submitted his resignation from teaching, Abdul Halim Hafez became a member of the musical radio (Al Iza3a Al Mousikiya), as a musician playing on Alabouah instrument.

Abdel Halim sang “Safini Marra” and the poem “Likaa” and got criticism from the public, they refused it in the beginning; they were still not ready for this type of songs.

Mohammad El Mouji, Kamal Tawil, Baligh Hamdi…are the geniuses composers who cooperated with Abdel Halim, as he sang as well songs for the musician Mohamed Abdel Wahab, like” Ahwak”, “Nebtedy Menen El Hikaya” …
The partnership between the Egyptian artist Mohamed Hamza and Abdel Halim provided the best Arabic songs: “Zay El Hawa”, “Sawwah”, Ayou Damet Hozn La”, “Mawoud”…

In 1967, Abdel-Halim Hafez sang in the Albert Hall in London, and that came for the purpose of removing the effects of aggression, and performed in the concert a song of Christ. In his professional career, Abdel Halim has more than 230 songs, divided into: emotional, national, and poems.
Abdel-Halim did not only sing, but was involved in films and series: Lahen Al Wafaa, ayamina El Helwa, Mawaad Gharam, Fata Ahlami, Yom Min Omri, Al Khataya…and many others.
As for the series, Abdel Halem Hafez was the star of “Arjouk La Tefhamni Ghalat” and it was the only series in which he got the main starring role.

After he was injured in the liver, the damage caused by the disease Schistosomiasis, it was behind his death in 30 March 1977. The death of Abdel Halem Hafez made four girls enter the hospital for they couldn’t believe and handle the news of his death.

Nightingale had perpetuated songs and he remains in our minds, he could not pass in the world of art and leave without writers writing about him, without actors playing his roles in movies and soap operas.
In the month of July 2006, a film entitled “Halim” was produced by Emad Aldeen Adeeb and Sheriff Aarfa, and also directed by Sheriff Arafa. The role of the Egyptian actor Abdel Halim Hafez was played by Ahmed Zaki, but his death during filming the movie made it necessary to complete the movie with his son Haitham Ahmed Zaki after him.
After that, a series of the life of Abdel Halim Hafez was filmed.

Still, even till now, everyone still repeats and sings Abdel Halem Hafez’s songs, so he is still alive in our hearts, Abdel Halim Hafez is present in the minds of everyone…
