Palestinians in the West Bank village of Nebi Saleh have marked the first anniversary of their weekly protests over a disputed spring which both they and the residents of a nearby Jewish settlement, claim as their own.

Israeli forces looked on as residents and demonstrators planted trees, before marching around waving Palestinian flags. Saturday's protest was peaceful. The Palestinians say settlers from the nearby settlement of Halamish took over the oasis one year ago.

They add that the spring is on their land, but they haven't been able to access it since that time. The Palestinian residents of the village then started staging weekly protests, calling for free access to the water supply.
