Three succumb to swine flu; 19 infections reported nationwide

Three people have died in three different governorates from complications associated with the H1N1 virus, commonly known as "swine flu," while 19 others in six different governorates were said to have been infected with the virus.

According to the Health Ministry, a child in Ismailia has also been diagnosed with bird flu.

Dakahlia's swine flu committee reported the death of 56-year-old Mohamed Suleiman in association with the H1N1 virus. The Health Ministry also reported the death from swine flu of 23-year-old Idara al-Gohary from Kafr el-Sheikh on Thursday.

In Beheira, 48-year-old Fathiya Abdel Maqsoud from Tanta also reportedly succumbed to the disease.

Officials from the Dakahlia Health Directorate, meanwhile, said that Health Minister Hatem al-Gebali would be meeting with representatives of the governorates’ crisis-prevention departments to discuss ways of combating the viruses in the coming period.

According to ministry officials, the latest case in Ismailia brings the total number of cases of bird flu in Egypt to 115.
