Toshiba aims to quadruple LCD TV sales in China

TOKYO —

Toshiba Corp aims to quadruple sales of its liquid crystal display televisions in China to 2 million units in fiscal 2011 from the current year to next March by introducing a high value-added product in the rapidly growing market.

The Japanese electronics giant will launch late December the 55-inch 55X1000C, which inherits the key concepts of Toshiba’s top-of-the-line Cell Regza TV featuring high picture and sound quality, it said. The TV also allows users to see 3-D images generated from conventional 2-D content, the company said.

‘‘The Chinese liquid crystal display TV market is growing at a brisk pace, and is expected to surpass the U.S. as the world’s largest TV market in fiscal 2010,’’ Toshiba said in a press release.
