A general strike in Greece has brought thousands out onto the streets in Athens to protest against planned spending cuts.
Clashes erupted in the streets near the parliament building, with police firing tear gas.
Groups of protesters wearing hoods and covering their faces fought with police in riot gear.
Police came under pressure as some protesters threw firebombs and other missiles at them.
In other parts of Athens, shops and businesses closed up for the day.
Public transport came to a standstill - there were no trains running from Athens main station.
Many of the ancient tourist sites in Athens, like Hadrian's Library, remain closed.
